Bicycle trailer or carrier?

I'm not a hard-core cyclist, more like a fair-weather, stay on a paved trail in suburbia bike rider. My daughter will be one in the spring and loves to be outdoors, so I'd like to take her with us when we go. My main concern is crashing (she will have bike helmet). Which do you use and why?

1. I like the trailer, they have a swivel on the part that attaches to the bike so if the bike falls over the trailer stays upright and since baby is held in a 5 point harness with a roll cage all around I think it is definitely the safer choice.
2. Trailer for sure! If you fall and crash you don't want all your weight landing on the child too! That could make an even worse accident!
3. Trailer, it's much safer and my 2 year old brings stuff with her in there to keep her occupied.
